Mid Season Form

Posted Thursday, March 31, 2011 by James Martinez
The Corona HS freshman baseball team is 7-1-1 going into this weekends Big 8 freshman tournament at Eastvale Roosevelt HS. Despite losing their last game at Oak Hills, they are more than capable of winning this tournament. Coach Joe Scott (CSUF) and his grizzled assistant have the team focused and well balanced.

Corona's pitching has been just short of stellar. Garett Lilly, Dakota Salazar, Derrick Robinson, Troy Starkey, and TJ Corigan have all given great performances for the young cats. Lilly, Salazar, Robinson and Starkey have really been imposing their will in certain stints. Julian an lhp can be effective at times coming in mid to late in ball games. Overall the Corona pitching corps has answered the bell thus far into the season and should continue to do so the rest of the year.

Thee offense has responded well, averaging 10 runs a game. Sergio Salgado and Garett Lilly have been providing the punch, while 1bs JT Martinez has steadily been hovering over .300 all year from the left side of the dish. D. Robinson has done his damage as well. Dakota Salazar, Starkey, and Corigan are known to bust out on the ball for production. Chad L. battles it in the 9 spot holding the line for the top of the line-up. This line-up will get better as the season rolls along, as each player is gaining more confidence each AB.

The defense has not been generous to their opponents, nearly smothering everything within their grasp. Catching has been a strong suit as well with D. Robinson and utility man Mikey Lang being dependable for their brothers behind the plate. Errors are a rarity for this team folks.
The 2011 Corona Freshman basball club is in mid-season form and ready to take on the Big 8 this weekend 4-2-11. Don't miss this fans as I can assure you a great display of young baseball talent.
